Helpful Storage Hints

  • Water and Condensation Damage
 - Humidity and water seepage from the concrete floor can cause unprotected furniture and wood to absorb moisture and warp, mildew & stain. Keep fine woods and furniture off the floor with blocks and/or pallets. Allow circulation of air between walls and floors is among your best protection.

- Few things destroy your fine goods faster than humidity. Avoid use of cardboard boxes for long term storage, keep it off the concrete floors which may absorb moisture. The best storage containers are plastic boxes with air-tight lids.

- If you are storing a refrigerator, leave the door ajar to prevent mold. If you store appliances that use water (washing machine, etc.) wipe the insides with baking soda to remove traces of water.
 
- To absorb moisture from the air, place some charcoal in a sauce pan as this trick really works. 
  
- Use old linens or other fabrics instead of plastic to cover objects to protect from dust is always prefered.

Beside being creepy, insects, spiders, moths, and rodents can cause irreparable damage to your belongings in a short amount of time. 
They leave droppings, chew on things and cause odors when they die. Here are a few ideas to keep them at bay.

- Baits and traps are beneficial but for extra protection, place dryer sheets in the corners of the unit as well as in boxes, furniture drawers and as well as boxes.

- Never store items of food or items with food particles left on them.

- If storing your vacuum, make sure the retaining bag is completely emptied so food particles are not present.
